The only vocalizations I've heard from him so far are his little happy baby squeaks when he's pet and a short call when I leave the room. When should I expect the screaming to start? After he matures? He's very quiet right now.Other than convincing a friend or family member to swing by (which I'm not sure is even possible, so many people are afraid of birds or just not "bird people"), how have you socialized your parrot? How do you socialize your bird with other people? I live alone and work remotely so we are pretty isolate most of the day.Is this also why he keeps falling off his perches? Is it normal for a cockatoo this age to have a really weak foot grip? Sometimes if we walk while he's perched on my hand it's like he hardly clings on and is very wobbly.Does anyone have any favorite resources for training and parrot behavior? I've gotten most of my info thus far from the internet and these forums, but am eager to learn more.Is it outlandish to think someday they can both be out at the same time and still ignore eachother? Baby has NO FEAR of the dogs but all three dogs are definitely a little too interested at times. When baby comes out of his cage, the dogs are either in their kennels or outside. The dogs were very fixated at first and I've been adamant about redirecting them anytime I catch them staring. Does anyone have any tips for integrating him with my three (soon to be four) large dogs? I am keeping them separate right now, but they can see eachother. They weren't kidding when they said cockatoos will snuggle for hours! He's been getting about 1 or 2 hours of 1:1 time with me. Sometimes I take him out myself and we play or snuggle, and sometimes he forages quietly on top of his cage. Sometimes he comes out, sometimes he doesn't. So far he's been out of the cage about 4-6 hours a day, or at least, his cage has been opened. How many cuddles is too many cuddles? I want to bond obviously, but I don't want to give him separation anxiety (I already have a dog with that!).When he does this I offer him seed or some of his fresh food (this morning we shared some oatmeal which he LOVED), is this okay? I don't want to encourage dependent behavior but he's also so so young still. Could this mean he's not properly weaned or is he just seeking comfort? I'd say he begs more often than not when my hand goes near him (to give scritches or pick up, etc). Is this something I should be worried about? A search on the forums says he might just be playing too hard, but wow does his tail look ROUGH. Could it be from falling off perches and wiping out when he doesn't gauge the distance very well? His cage is plenty big and he doesn't have any toys or anything rubbing on his tail. He is SO CLUMSY and has the coordination of well, a baby bird. He also came home with some really scraggly looking feathers, which have only gotten worse in the 2 days that I've had him.My baby came home from the store kind of dirty (his feathers look like they might have dirt or pooped smeared on them? I snapped a few photos which aren't super clear, but can anyone let me know if this is normal? Will a regular bath/misting clean him?. ![]() Hello! I had trouble deciding where to put this thread since some of my questions aren't necessarily Goffins or cockatoo related and probably applicable to many parrots, but some of my questions ARE cockatoo related so, well, here we are! Some background: got my goffins 2 days ago. ![]()
